Maes yr Yrfa School, Cefneithin, Carmarthenshire

Client: Kier Construction
Value: £400,000
Product(s): Aluminium curtain walling, Secured by Design

Nolan was contracted in September last year by industry heavyweights Kier Construction to carry out refurbishment work, including replacement aluminium curtain walling to a wing of the Welsh speaking Maes yr Yrfa School in Cefneithin on a Secured by Design project worth £400,000.

The curtain walling was replaced almost like-for-like, and louvers were installed above the clear glazing on the ground and first floors, with Pilkington Spandrel glass replacing the aluminium panelling. The louvers conceal internal ventilation systems linked electrically to a central control unit, and boast super-low energy consumption. The aluminium inside and around the mullions is acoustically treated to lessen ‘flanking’ – sound travelling around the building. Kier installed roof cladding and solar panels on the project.

Ryan Williams, Project Manager, Kier Construction said: “Nolan Commercial have been thoroughly professional throughout the project and have delivered a quality product in a safe manner. They have embraced our progressive snagging system with any defects dealt with quickly. As a result of their performance on this project they have become fully incorporated on the Kier supply chain. I would recommend their use to any other contractor and in particular the installation team we have on site.”

Sean Mcnulty of Newport-based suppliers Blyweert Beaufort Aluminium said: “Blyweert Beaufort are extremely happy to be associated with Nolan Commercial. From the initial design concept of Maes yr Yrfa to the final installation and completion of the project we were constantly amazed at the technical and commercial skill levels of Nolan Commercial. We are partnering together on a number of projects, and look forward to working with the team at Nolan again.”
