Main Street Barry

Main Street Barry (Phase 2)

Client: Jehu
Value: £13,000
Product(s): Low u-value uPVC windows, Composite doors

Nolan Commercial has been working with Jehu to complete the refurbishment of a previously derelict building to provide nine new affordable homes for Newydd Housing Association.

The refurbishment of the three buildings on Main Street in Barry has created six, two-bedroom flats and three, one-bedroom flats for rent.

Nolan Commercial supplied and installed uPVC windows and composite doors for prepared openings as per Jehu’s drawings and project specification.

The work was carried out to upgrade the existing fenestration. UPVC windows and composite doors were specified for ease of maintenance and energy efficient windows achieving an overall u-value of 0.9 installed to improve heat insulation and reduce heating costs.

Speaking about the project, Chris Hughes, Commercial Department Manager for Nolan, said:

“We were required to achieve an overall u-value of 0.9Wm2K on the window package. Coupled with requirements for means of escape and easy cleaning internally, this presented a lot of potential issues from a design perspective and we worked closely with contractor and architect to devise a suitable approach to combat this. The resulting product ticked all the boxes and we are pleased with the successful outcome.”

Internal Georgian bars were installed to the front elevation windows and Secured by Design hardware and glazing were also included for added security.

“By installing new windows and doors to all areas we have transformed what was once a derelict building and created nine new flats with significantly improved living conditions for local residents. We have worked with Nolan Commercial on previous projects and they deliver a good service, and this refurbishment is no exception.”

Jason Smith, Site Manager, Jehu
